Denning Park officially reopens to the public

Denning Park, located at 4903 S. Gilbert in La Grange, officially reopened to La Grange residents July 27. The park had been closed throughout the winter and spring for various renovations, including the construction of a new playground, walkway and parking areas, the fixing of drainage issues, the removal of older storage buildings and the installation of new multi-use fields.

The project was initially scheduled for completion in May, but various different issues had delayed the reopening of the park. For one, there had been some problems with the contractor’s installation of the playground’s surface and equipment, which initially did not meet specifications. This meant that the landing zone for the equipment had to be re-manufactured.

Secondly, the area’s drought prevented the new turf from growing in as quickly and as full as anticipated, and the netting which helped facilitate growth would have posed a tripping hazard.

After meetings with all parties involved with the project, a solution was finally reached, and the park has now reopened to proper specifications and guidelines, completely safe for public use. Minor cosmetic adjustments to the play surface will be made at a later date without having to close the part for its completion.
