WESTCHESTER — The Westchester Knights 9U travel baseball team finished its season strongly on July 22. Playing 12 games in 11 days, they were undefeated in back-to-back tournaments hosted by Oak Lawn and Evergreen Park.

The Knights rallied to defeat the Oak Lawn Lightning on the final night of the six-day event in dramatic fashion to take first place in the Oak Lawn Tournament located at the Spartan Athletic Complex.

Down 10-5 in the bottom half of the final inning, the Knights’ furious comeback was highlighted by a bases-loaded triple by Joe Cousineau to tie the game, followed by a two-out single by Luke Panek to bring in the winning run.

Solid pitching performances by Jerry Ball and Shane Curtain contributed to the team’s success.

The Knights completed the Oak Lawn 9U Summer Classic tournament 6-0. They continued their hot streak, taking first place in the Evergreen Park All-Star 9U tournament.

The Knights defeated host Evergreen Park 9-1 in the championship game on July 22, finishing with a 5-0 record in the five-day tournament.

Timely hitting and clutch pitching led to the success during the tournaments.

“This was a real team effort,” said head coach Ralph Lawrence. “The boys worked hard this summer and it paid off. We are proud of the way they represent our community.”
