Indian Head Park voters reject levy hike

INDIAN HEAD PARK — More than 69 percent of Indian Head Park voters cast their ballots against a local property tax increase.

Indian Head Park voters were asked whether the village should be allowed to override the state’s property tax extension limitation law in order to increase the 2012 levy by 22.4 percent over last year. State law limits levy increases to the lesser of 5 percent or the percentage increase in the Consumer Price Index over the prior levy year.

The proposed levy increase was estimated to cost the owner of a $100,000 home an additional $40.72. Villagewide, the increased levy would add $200,000 to the village coffers, which Mayor Richard Andrews said would be used to provide various village services, including street repairs.
