Lyons Township radio station named best in nation

LA GRANGE — WLTL 88.1FM radio was named the “Best Radio Station in the Nation” at the 10th annual John Drury High School Radio Awards held Nov. 10 at North Central College in Naperville. This is the fifth time WLTL has taken home the top honor, also winning in 2002, 2004, 2008 and 2009. In order to win this award, stations must enter their programs in several different categories involving promotions, drama, news, sports and public service, and based on point totals from those entries, the station with the most points wins the top honor of Best Radio Station.
This year, WLTL was nominated in eight of the nine different categories – the most nominations of any school in the competition this year. WLTL took home the following individual honors:

With these awards in hand, WLTL secured enough points to once again be named Best Radio Station in the Nation, beating other nominated stations from Michigan, Connecticut and Illinois.
The John Drury High School Radio Awards were created to acknowledge excellence in high school radio broadcasting around the nation. These awards were named in honor of award-winning ABC-Chicago news anchor John Drury. Radio students from Michigan, Indiana, Connecticut, California and many more participated in the John Drury Awards. All 1st, 2nd and 3rd place recipients were awarded a $1,000 scholarship to attend North Central College in recognition of their achievement.
