LAGRANGE PARK — Police are investigating a purse snatching Dec. 3 outside a Village Market office as a crime of opportunity, unusual for the village.

About 4:28 p.m. a woman was about to enter the Gavin Eye Center, 434 Sherwood Road, when a man came up behind her, said Phil Kubisztal, deputy police chief.

The woman had one hand on the door knob and the other holding a clutch purse when the man, who was running, grabbed the purse and continued running, Kubisztal said.

“There was no threat or force used and not even a conversation,” he said.

The incident was “extremely unusual for us,” Kubisztal said. “It looks like a crime of opportunity, not like anything was planned or he was lying in wait.”

The woman wasn’t able to provide details of the man’s description, Kubisztal said. ~.
