LA GRANGE — Longtime resident and community volunteer John Penicook died March 6, after battling a brain tumor for more than a year.

A funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. March 9 at St. Francis Xavier Church, Ogden and Waiola avenues in La Grange.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Fenwick High School to establish a scholarship fund.
Penicook, who moved to La Grange 24 years ago, volunteered as a Little League coach, AYSO soccer referee and a basketball and football coach at St. Francis.
Born on a farm in Piper City, Ill., to John and Ruth Ann Penicook, John Penicook was known as an early riser who aspired to be a farmer and coach basketball.
He earned a bachelor’s degree in agricultural economics from the University of Illinois and a master’s degree in information assurance from Purdue University before pursuing a career in investment banking in Chicago.
