Things will be buzzing at the Morton Arboretum during Honey Bee Weekend, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 8 and Sunday, Sept. 9 at Rte. 53 and I-88, Lisle.
“This is the weekend that we will be celebrating the seventh birthday of the arboretum’s award-winning children’s garden so we call it Happy Bee-Day!” Special Events Coordinator Diana Fischer-Woods said. “They will be doing a dance, making a bee mask and doing other bee-related crafts and activities.”
There will also be Bike to the Hives tours for ages 12 and older as well as honey tasting.
“There are several things specifically designed for families,” Fischer-Woods said. “One of them is our Honey Bee Hikes which include a viewing of the arboretum’s beehives. It’s led by an educational guide so there’s a focus on honey bees and their favorite flowers and how honey is made.” The cost is $5 per person for members, $6 for non-members. Advance registration is encouraged.
