Hinsdale heated up on Aug. 18 when actress Betty White came to town in support of BraveHearts Therapeutic Riding and Educational Center.
The Hot in Hinsdale event at Ruth Lake Country Club drew 165 supporters for a night of cocktails, photographs, fundraising and proclamations.
Guests arrived via a red carpet entrance where they had the opportunity to mingle with Betty White and other local luminaries. Dean Richards of Channel 9-WGN gave the opening remarks and Gov. Pat Quinn arrived with a proclamation declaring Aug. 18 Betty White Day in the state of Illinois.
The actress and comedienne is well known for her tireless efforts in support of animal health and welfare and sponsors a horse at the BraveHearts facility in Harvard.
She spent the earlier part of the day touring the riding center and visiting her horse, Baby. At the end of the evening, she joked that she had she had left lipstick on everyone, even the horses.
Founded in 2003 by Hinsdale resident Marge Gunnar, BraveHearts provides therapeutic horseback riding to children and adults with special needs as well as wounded military veterans.
In October, the organization will host the Special Olympics Illinois for all equestrian events. ~.
