The Greater La Grange YMCA has been recognized as the winner of the AT&T Investing in Illinois Award.
Jerry Mytych, director of AT&T external affairs, presented a $2,500 check to Bridgette Letizia, executive director of the La Grange YMCA, during a board meeting Jan. 16.
“Each day the YMCA strives to make a difference in our community,” Letizia said. “The YMCA is the community’s charity.”
By winning the award, the Greater LaGrange YMCA receives public recognition and the financial contribution from AT&T, which will be used to support YMCA programs and services such as summer day camp, so every child has a place to stay active and out of trouble.
It also will help support the La Grange YMCA’s Special Olympic bowling and swimming teams so every person with special abilities has the opportunity to belong, compete and excel.
“At the YMCA, every year Olympic Gold Medal athletes are developed and given the strength, courage and focus to achieve their dreams,” Letizia said. “Last year, one of our athletes achieved her lifelong dream of competing at the Special Olympic World Games in Greece where she and her teammates earned silver and gold medals.”
The AT&T Investing in Illinois Awards provide resources and recognition to organizations and programs that are improving lives in their communities and the state by advancing education, economic growth, new technologies and other essential community services.
