heard a report from student representative and Western Springs senior Alivia Sabatino on overwhelming support for the 2011-12 calendar which scheduled semester exams before the winter break. Previously, students returned from the winter break for a week of classes and a week of exams, before the second semester began.
learned 19 students graduated in December, but who won’t be counted in the rate of graduation for 2011 or 2012 according to new state regulations.
heard from Director of Business Services David Sellers on recommended uses of the construction allowances totaling $32,767, which include items such as an upgrade of a window system to match existing interior blinds, code-compliant plumbing work, added computer stations in an art room and re-routing of a live underground electrical line. A total of $17,000 remain in the change order allowance and account for a minimal amount of the total $1.83 million construction contract.
received an update on the school’s new online Infinite Campus Student Information System for 2011-12. Ed Tennant, technology services director, said teachers are using the attendance and behavior references aspects of the system along with the grade book function.
heard a report on the placement process for the humanities program designed to boost the performance of students struggling academically, particularly in reading. Scott Eggerding, director of curriculum, detailed his efforts to meet with principals and curriculum directors from associate schools to explain the program’s advantages.
