agreed to post information on the village’s website on opt-in programs for individual residents to get cheaper electrical supply rates on a portion of their electrical bills. The board may consider holding a referendum in November to negotiate group rates from electrical suppliers. Individual households could save up to 19.8 percent by buying electricity from Integrys Energy Services in a contract negotiated by the Metropolitan Mayors and Managers Caucus.
approved an ordinance amending plans to renovate the exterior of Impact Signs, 26 E. Burlington Ave. The owner decided not to add metal awnings and to install a flat roof with crown molding.
agreed to purchase a vacuum leaf collector for $23,288 from Standard Equipment Co., Chicago, which allows leaves to be collected on parkways as part of the disposal service at no cost to residents.
created three more one-hour parking spaces on the east side of Brainard Avenue, just north of Hillgrove Avenue and the Burlington Northern Railroad tracks. Village staff members determined that with the demolition of a building at 17 N. Brainard Ave., driveways to the site are no longer needed and can become parking spaces. The spaces are for one-hour parking from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
agreed to amend the short-term parking regulations in the central business district allowing a new 15-minute parking space at 108 W. Burlington Ave.
revised smoking regulations to comply with changes in state law since the Smoke Free Illinois Act was adopted in 2008. The state penalty has been increased for second offenses for $100 for a first violation and $250 for subsequent violations.
