The village of La Grange will be utilizing the CodeRED Emergency Notification System on Tuesday, Feb. 6 to call the entire community.
The message being delivered will direct recipients to the village website to add additional contact numbers, and it asks recipients to spread the word by mentioning the system to family, friends and neighbors.
The calls will begin at 10 a.m. and continue until the entire database has been attempted. This call will give village personnel the chance to operate the system as if there has been a communitywide disaster. It will also serve as a means of verifying the integrity of the current database and eliminating any non-functioning telephone numbers in the system.
“All individuals and businesses should take the time to visit our website and add contact information to include cellular phones and other non-traditional phones as well as e-mail and text addresses,” said Police Chief Michael Holub. “If your contact information is not in the database you will not receive a call when an urgent message is sent.”
Holub said businesses, in particular, should register, as well as individuals who have unlisted phone numbers, who have changed their phone number recently, and those who use a cellular phone exclusively or have VoIP phones (such as Vonage) as their primary numbers.
Holub urges citizens and businesses to visit the website at www.villageoflagrange.com and follow the CodeRED link on the left side of the page. Those without Internet access may call (708) 579-2258, Ext. 2256 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Required information includes a street address for locationpurposes and a primary phone number. Additional phone numbers, e-mail and text addresses may also be entered.
More information about the CodeRED system is on the website, any questions should be directed to the La Grange Police Department.
