U.S. Rep. Dan Lipinski, D-3rd, from Western Springs, has been invited to attend an open house Jan. 30 in LaGrange Park to gauge residents’ views on the impact of potentially closing the local post office branch.
The village is hosting a forum from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Village Hall, 447 N. Catherine Ave., to hear the concerns of residents and patrons of the LaGrange Park branch office at 31st Street and Barnsdale Road.
Residents’ comments will be filmed and compiled in a presentation to U.S. Postal Service officials in Washington, D.C. evaluating whether to close the office.
LaGrange Park was identified in the summer as one of 3,700 offices nationwide to be closed to cut costs. Annual sales in LaGrange Park of $573,000 in 2010 and $528,000 through September for 2011 fall short of the $600,000 threshold used for the post office study. No date has been determined for a definite decision.
