LA GRANGE — The Greater La Grange YMCA expanded its preschool program Oct. 2 with a move to larger quarters at the former St. Barbara’s School in Brookfield.
A dozen preschoolers took part in a ribbon cutting ceremony for their new classroom at 8900 Windemere Ave., said Deb Strus, director of Bright Ideas, which had been in session at the YMCA’s main location, 1100 31st St. in LaGrange Park..
“We’ve been meeting for three weeks and have gone over the move with the parents,” Strus said. “It’s a hard change for kids to understand, but once they see the beautiful classroom, they’ll be so excited. We had such a small room inside our facility.”
The larger quarters also will allow two students on a wait list to begin attending class.
If enrollment warrants, the program for children ages 2 to 5 will be expanded from Tuesday and Thursday mornings to add a class on Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings, Strus said.
With the larger facility, YMCA organizers also hope to offer before and after school care for kindergarten and elementary school students later this school year or next fall.
