Crews respond to chlorine leak at La Grange pumping station

Updated: October 30, 2012 2:51PM

A small chlorine leak forced traffic to be rerouted for about two hours early Tuesday near La Grange’s East Avenue pumping station at Plainfield Road and East Avenue.

Public Works Director Ryan Gillingham said there was no danger to anyone in the area from a small leak on a fitting of the gas chlorine system at the pumping station, which triggered an alarm shortly before 6 a.m.

The system was shut off, repaired and returned to service by 8 a.m., Gillingham said.

“As a precaution, traffic was rerouted and the road was back open around 8 a.m.,” he said.

A chlorine leak registered earlier at 9:36 a.m. Friday, which Gillingham said was due to the process of replacing parts for the system.
