Rock ‘n roll revival slated for the Corral in Western Springs

WESTERN SPRINGS — Taking a cue from blues artist Tyrone Davis, a group of musical Lyons Township High School alumni are hoping to Turn Back the Hands of Time.
Graduates from 1968, 1970 and 1971 have resurrected their rock band, Saracens, for a concert Nov. 10 to benefit The Corral at the Lyons Township High School South Campus in Western Springs.
The band is hosting a ’60s-style sock hop from 7:30-11:30 p.m. at The Corral, 4940 S. Willow Springs Road. Tickets cost $20 and are available at the door.
Band members found each other on Facebook and began rehearsals a little more than a year ago.
“We’ve played some bars and some benefit concerts. We were going to do a benefit for the school or a foundation and then we heard about the Corral,” said lead singer Frank Glas of Lombard.
“Nobody uses it like they used to,” Glas said. “We were there every Friday and Saturday night at the Corral as kids.”
The group’s play list includes “Johnny B. Goode,” “You Really Got Me,” “Midnight Hour,” “Mustang Sally,” “Ticket to Ride,” “Knock on Wood,” and “Dirty Water.”
Saracens, named for a British military vehicle band members learned about in a history class, claimed third place in a Battle of the Bands contest held in 1966, Glas recalled proudly.
Glas will be joined by Bill Trombello of Wheaton on rhythm guitar, Art Erdman of DeKalb on lead guitar, Don Musillimi of Lemont on bass and newcomer Rich Harris of Brookfield on drums, replacing Steve Sims, who suffered a fatal heart attack several years ago.
