La Grange proposes 4.2 tax hike

Updated: December 23, 2012 6:09AM

LA GRANGE — The Village Board approved a recommendation Nov. 12 for a levy of $8.3 million, which represents a 4.2 percent increase of $337,000 over last year’s levy. The levy is used to calculate how much tax money is available to fund village services and debts and is reflected on tax bills paid in 2013.

The increase is based on the Consumer Price Index of 3 percent announced in December of 2011, plus an estimated 1.2 percent for new property coming on the tax rolls.

On a home with a market value of $350,000, the proposed 4.2 percent increase amounts to an additional $27.53 on the village’s share of the tax bill and $9.11 on the library’s portion.

The measure is expected to be formally adopted at the board’s meeting at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 10 at the Village Hall, 53 S. La Grange Road.
