LA GRANGE — Gurrie Middle School has been named one of six schools in the Chicago area exemplifying education of the whole child.

The Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, an international professional organization, selected the La Grange school after an extensive screening process and site visits.

Gurrie demonstrates tenets of the association’s Whole Child Initiative as a school that’s engaging, healthy, challenging, safe and supportive, the association found.

“It’s a great honor, a wonderful opportunity for us and we’re looking forward to talking with people about what we do,” said Principal Ed Hood.

The association, which has more than 150,000 members in 145 countries, will hold a convention in Chicago in March. Before it begins, Gurrie will host a group of eight to 20 observers March 15 for tours of the school, classroom visits and time to talk with teachers, students and parents.
