Wanted: Clever theme for La Grange Pet Parade

LA GRANGE — The organizing committee for the La Grange Pet Parade has invited area kindergarten through sixth-grade students to suggest a theme for the 67th annual parade stepping off on June 1. The winner gets to ride and wave from a convertible as junior grand marshal.

“The parade is really about the kids, and we don’t usually honor them as grand marshal,” said Marcy Glink, an event planner with Great Events, Inc. coordinating the Pet Parade. “It’s usually an adult or maybe a group like the Boy Scouts.”

Entry forms can be downloaded from www.lgpetparade.org and emailed to Glink at marcy@greatevent.com, mailed to Pet Parade Office, PO Box 707, La Grange IL 60525, or dropped off at three locations listed on the website.

The deadline to apply is Dec. 31, and the winner will be posted Jan. 10 on the Pet Parade website.

“We thought about choosing a winning essay, but it would be a lot simpler to judge a winning theme,” Glink said. “We’ve contacted all the schools as well, and they seem very receptive.”

Recent parade themes have included 66 Years of Fun Time, Still Rocking at 65, Champions on Parade, Stars on Parade, Clowns on Parade and Honor our Flag.
