LAGRANGE
A woman’s quick call to 911 following a sexual assault in the downtown La Grange parking garage the morning of Dec. 18 led to the arrest of a suspect.
La Grange police charged a 28-year-old man with aggravated criminal sexual assault for the attack in the garage at 80 S. 6th St. at about 4:40 a.m. Dec. 18. La Grange police officials said the woman, who is homeless, was sleeping at the top of the staircase in the main vestibule of the garage when a man assaulted her.
As soon as she was able to free herself, the woman called 911 on her cellular phone, La Grange police investigator Ken Uher said. As the call was taking place, the dispatcher and a police officer saw a suspect running away on several of the parking garage’s security cameras. Officers responded and chased the suspect on foot. They apprehended David A. Mason, who is homeless, and took him into custody.
The woman was transported to the hospital where she was treated for minor injuries and released.
Mason appeared in bond court in Bridgeview Dec. 19, where his bond was set at $500,000. ~.
