Boy Scouts Council sets record for Eagle rank

Setting a new record for the Boy Scouts of America, Des Plaines Valley Council, 155 Scouts will be recognized for attaining Eagle Scout, the highest rank a youth in the program can aspire to. The Scouts attained this rank during 2012, the 100th Anniversary of the Eagle Scout rank, adding to the great significance of the achievement this year for those in Scouting.
More typically, about 100 Scouts from council units attain the rank of Eagle annually, although this varies year to year. The previous record was 129 in 2009.
The Boy Scouts, families, volunteers, professional staff, and supporters will celebrate with a luncheon and ceremonies starting 1 p.m., Feb. 10, at Mirage Banquets, 10255 W. Irving Park Road, Schiller Park.
“This will be a great celebration for our council,” said President James Honan of La Grange.
Attaining the rank of Eagle requires Scouts to meet exacting requirements, demonstrating scouting skills, showing leadership, and performing community service. The community service requirement calls for Scouts to develop, propose, execute, and report on a project that meets a need and performs a service in their communities.
