Cook County Commissioner Jeff Tobolski has honored Sharon Flaim as the Unsung Heroine for his 16th District.

Flaim was honored at the 16th annual Cook County Unsung Heroine Awards Breakfast held March 12 at the Chicago Cultural Center.

“As a mother, grandmother, former business owner, and super volunteer Sharon Flaim is an inspiration to young girls everywhere,” Tobolski said.

Flaim is a wife and mother of six, a former benefit consultant to employers in the areas of software development, training, and Social Security, and also owned Grant Street Coffee in La Grange from 1993-1998.

Flaim has been Wispering Oaks Scout Leader for 12 years and serves as a crisis line volunteer and event planner for Constance Morris House Crisis Line. She also served in various capacities for Ogden Avenue School, Park Junior High School, and Immacualte Heart of Mary High School.

Her current volunteer commitments include Adventist Hinsdale Hospital, The Leader Shop, Rotary Club of Western Springs, Community Support Services, Pets and Pals Event Committee, West Suburban Chamber of Commerce and Industry Foundation, Interfaith Community Partners, Pillars, LaGrange Park Chamber of Commerce, and La Grange Hospital and Business Association.

“As a volunteer extraordinaire, Sharon has engaged in extensive community service and has demonstrated a special commitment to the communities of the western suburbs,” Tobolski said.
