In December, the Community Park District of LaGrange Park asked residents to help out local families in need by participating in their Holiday Warming Tree and food drive. The response was much larger than expected, and the park district would like to extend many thanks to the individuals and family members who helped to make this holiday season a little bit warmer for local families.
The Holiday Warming Tree grew well beyond its capacity, holding onto more than 250 pieces of hats, gloves, mittens, scarves and socks. By Dec. 23, the last day of the collection, not a single light could be seen through the items. Just as graciously, the food drive donation box was filled and emptied at least six times. Items collected included pasta noodles, kitchen products, baby goods and other nonperishable products. On more than one occasion, individuals were seen making multiple trips to their car to retrieve items.
All things collected were given to the La Grange Nurse’s Association and the St. Francis Food Pantry for disbursement.
