Skittles Bingo was among the engaging and enlightening activities at St. Francis Xavier School in La Grange Jan. 29 through Feb. 3 during Catholic Schools Week.
Students began the observance with an open house Jan. 29 for members of St. Francis Xavier parish and the community, followed by a spelling bee Jan. 30 for fourth- through eighth-graders. Other activities centered on reading, an all-school Mass and the Roots of Respect, for which students divided into groups to discuss bullying and how to avoid it.
The week included special treats for students, such as no-homework days and ice cream. The celebration concluded Feb. 3 with a teacher appreciation luncheon hosted by parent volunteers.
“This year’s theme for Catholic Schools Week is “Faith, Academics, Service,” and the short version of our school mission statement is ‘We pray, we learn, we serve,’” said Principal Debra Rodde.
“CSW is an opportunity to show the community what happens at school with respect to all three areas, and it is also a time to thank our parent and parish communities for their overwhelming support that makes it possible to fulfill our mission for the benefit of our students,” Rodde said.
